16.2. BusinessObjects in a SICS Environment
Install BusinessObjects on the server/client.
Business Objects Repository #
What is a Repository? #
To be able to create a repository you need to create database/database account that BusinessObjects can use when creating the repository.
The person creating the Repository should be the system administrator in the deployment; he should work in co-operation with a DBA or person responsible for the database.
A Repository contains three elements:
- A security domain.
- A universe domain.
- A document domain.
These domains can, if needed, reside on different servers and even different database platforms.
Databases requiring an JDBC System DataSource Name (DSN) #
The below database platform requires an JDBC datasource name to be set-up to enable BusinessObjects to connect to the SICS database or a repository database on these platforms.
| Database Platform | Yes / No |
|---|---|
| Oracle | Yes |
| SQL-Server | Yes |
| PostgreSQL | Yes |
For more information on how to set up a system DSN please refer back to the BusinessObjects installation documentation.
Delivered Pseudo Connection #
Shared pseudo connection has been defined on all SICS universes. It is only possible to save a universe valid for all profiles with a shared connection. User, Designer and system administrator can open this universe. If you create an JDBC connection on your workstation, you can run a report with this universe.
‘Dummy’ Connections in Delivered Universes #
When the universes are released they are released with a ‘Dummy’ connection. You will therefore have to change connection in each individual universe to be able to use them. This can be done via the system administrator module.
- Start the system administrator module
- Browse to where you have stored the universes
- Click Open.
- Now you need to click the Parameters button, this will take you into the universe parameters, here you need to change from the ‘Dummy’ connection to a secure connection to the SICS database you have.
Note! The difference between a secured and delivered shared connection is; a secured connection is stored in the BusinessObjects repository database and a shared or personal connection in stored locally on your workstation.
- Click OK and export the universe to the repository.
