11.2. Configure Mandatory Items
To ensure that necessary details are entered on a contract, before it can be regarded as complete, you can define a set of information to be shown in a different color on the contract. If your company also has activated the Registration Complete functionality, the colored items become mandatory.
The following applies to the level of business Assumed Business and Outward Cedent Contract only.
This configuration comes in addition to other configurable settings, (for example, system parameter Business - Conditions - Required Conditions) as well as hardcoded rules in SICS.
Set up New Rule Set #
Define a new rule set for mandatory items.
- From the SICS Workstation Desktop, select System Administration and then Mandatory Fields Administration
- Select New from the pop-up menu in the Rule Sets container
- Select Business in the Rule Set For drop down
- Enter an Identifier
- Enter a Title
- Select OK

Define Rule Set Criteria #
Define criteria for which the Rule Set is applicable:
- From the SICS Workstation Desktop, select System Administration and then Mandatory Fields Administration
- Highlight wanted Rule Set
- Select New from the pop-up menu in the Selection Criteria container
- If wanted, select Level of Business
- If wanted, select Type of Business
- If wanted, select Main Class and Class of Business
- If wanted, select Base Company(ies)

Avoid Overlap #
Care must be taken to avoid creating overlapping selection criteria for different layouts. The system does not detect such overlap. If a business matches the selection criteria of two different layouts, you cannot be sure which layout the system will select when marking mandatory fields.
Select Mandatory Items #
Define which fields are mandatory for the selected Rule Set:
- From the SICS Workstation Desktop, select System Administration and then Mandatory Fields Administration
- Highlight wanted Rule Set
- Select Add/Remove from the pop-up menu in the Mandatory Fields In Selected Rule Set container
- Highlight wanted Group and select wanted fields
- If wanted, select fields for several groups
- Select OK
Avaiable Items #
Items available for configuration as mandatory can be divided in the following 2 categories:
1. Plain/simple fields #
Typically database table columns that have clearly defined business content.
Defining such a data field as mandatory results in validation that the database column has a non-NULL value.
In addition, normal SICS validations exists
2. Generic fields identified by reference data #
-
Limit/Premium fields
(ref data type/code 1001 - Limit Premium Optional Fields (code 01001)
The items available in this group are of two types:- System Defined Mandatory Items: Items defined by the system and that cannot be removed from the available list.
- User Defined Mandatory Items: A limit in the reference table ‘Limit Premium Optional Field’ with parent ‘Customized P/L Mandatory Field’ will be available in the Mandatory Fields Set up. You can select this item to be mandatory. The limit and the parent ‘Mandatory P/L xx’ must be one-to-one, e.g. Limit per Occurence with parent ‘Mandatory P/L 01’, Original Limit with parent ‘Mandatory P/L 02’.
-
Deduction fields (ref data type/code 01011 - Deduction Type)
The validation checks that the configured item (e.g. “Main Limit”) is present. Sub fields are not checked (e.g. type, %, 100%, Our Share, Comment, etc.)
Example of fields that are not applicable for configuration as mandatory:
- Section classification items (Area, Reporting Unit, Responsible Person, Class of Business classifications etc.)
- Business Partner Roles (Cedent, Broker, etc.)
