9.12. Find
Some of the searches in SICS have options for modification. These are available within the business, claims and accounting area. You modify the searches on the Find Tab of the system parameters.
Business #
The Business subtab includes the parameters that affect the Find Business facility.

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Cursor Page Amount (Rows in Find) | Indicates how many rows (businesses) that appear at a time when the user searches in the Find Business. The system shows the number of displayed businesses in Objects Found in the status bar at the bottom of the Find Business. If the system finds more businesses than it does display, the system makes a More button available. The user has to click this button to see the next set of found businesses. Values: Numbers Minimum Value: 1 Relevant when: The smaller this number is, the faster the system is, and however, a balance must be found between performance and how many businesses the user should see without clicking the More button. Applicable for: P&C, Life |
| Use Default Values for Underwriting Year and Main Class of Business within Outward Cedent’s Contract for Protection Assignment | Selected: In the protection assignment, when selecting Add Outward Cedent’s Contract and then the Find, the system defaults the underwriting year and the main class of business of the assumed business onto the outward Find Business. More specially, the system lists only the OCCs that have the main class of business of the assumed among its classifications. For these OCCs the system finds the underwriting year that matches the assumed underwriting year. The system uses information only from the assumed effective period that the user requests the protection for. Cleared: The system gives NO default values when assigning an outward cedent’s contract to a protection assignment. The system lists all outward cedent’s contracts and all the insured periods for each outward cedent’s contract. Relevant when: Narrows effectively down the search for protections. Whether to use this function or not depends on whether most of your outward businesses have the underwriting year equal to the assumed businesses’ underwriting year. Also, it depends on whether your businesses are correctly classified, so that the assumed businesses main class of business is a ‘sub set’ of the outward cedent’s contract’s main class of business. If your company has very few outward cedent’s contracts, it might be beneficial to have this parameter turned off. |
| Default Reporting Unit Category | The reporting unit category that will be defaulted in the Find Business when adding an outward cedant’s contract to a protection assignment. In other words, the system lists the OCCs with one of its reporting unit categories being the one selected in this parameter. Values: The reporting unit categories defined in the Reporting Units Management facility, for example: Profit Centre Segment Person Validations: Only available if the Use Default Values parameter above is selected. Relevant when: Effectively narrows down the search when most of your outward treaty protections contain a certain reporting unit category. Applicable for: P&C, Life |
| Default Additional Classification | The additional classification that the system defaults in the Find Business when the user adds an outward cedent’s contract to a protection assignment. More specifically, the system lists the OCCs, which have this additional classification among its additional classifications. Values: The Additional Classifications available in Find Business. Validations: Only available if you have selected the Use Default Values parameter. Relevant when: Occasionally companies have one or more user-defined classifications that nearly all of their outward cedent’s’ contracts have. One of these can be used to narrow down the search for protections. Applicable for: P&C, Life |
| Business Identifier, Former Identifier Size, Title | Indicates how many characters must be entered for a Business Identifier, a Former Identifier or a Title for a search to give an acceptable response time. (Wildcard symbols * are not included as characters). If you enter for example 3, and the user tries to do a search after entering only 2 characters, the system will warn that he/she should enter at least 3 characters before executing the search. He/she is still allowed to proceed, but the response time might NOT be acceptable Values: Numbers Minimum Value: 0 Relevant when: The more characters the user enters the shorter the response time. If your company feels that the response time on the find business is too long, you may enter the number 1 or higher. The most relevant value will however be 0 (zero). When the parameter is zero, the user can search for businesses without being requested for any identifier or title. Applicable for: P&C, Life |
| Life Cycle Status Identifier Size | Indicates how many characters must be entered for a Life Cycle Identifier (e.g. quotation identifier) for a search to give an acceptable response time. (Wildcard symbol * are not included as characters). If you have entered for example 3 and the user tries to do a search after entering only 2 characters, the system will warn that he/she should enter at least 3 characters before executing the search. He/she is still allowed to proceed even if just keeping the 2 characters, but the response time might NOT be acceptable. Values: Numbers Minimum Value: 0 Relevant when: The more characters the user enters the shorter the response time. How this would be set depends on your company’s response time on the find business. If you feel that the find business is too slow, you may enter the number 1 or higher. The most relevant value will be 0 (zero). The users can then search for business without being requested for any part of a Life Cycle Identifier. Applicable for: P&C, Life |
| Business Identifiers have to be entered | Selected: The user cannot execute a search at all without entering the minimum number of values defined in the parameter Business Identifier, Former Identifier Size, Title in the ID field on the Find Business. If the number in the parameter is 0, the user must enter a wildcard symbol * to execute the search. Cleared: It is not necessary to enter anything in the ID field on the Find Business to execute a search. Relevant when: This is a quite strict limitation on the user and should therefore be used only when the system response time is far beyond what you think is acceptable. This parameter is normally cleared. Applicable for: P&C, Life |
