9.1. Introduction
Companies normally carry out their functions in relatively the same way, however there are some functions that typically vary from company to company. The reason might be variations in local legislation, internal company guidelines or individual business practises. For these functions, SICS offers alternative options by use of the system parameters.
The system parameters contain options of SICS behaviour that will affect the majority of the users in a company. For settings that typically affect only parts of the user group and that are more restrictive in nature, refer the Security Handling chapter. For options of the individual preference of a user, see the Set Default Preference chapter in the User’s Guide.
You access the system parameters by double-clicking the System Parameter Maintenance icon, which you find in the System Administration folder on the SICS desktop.
Searchable System Parameters:
The System Parameters are categorised into different categories based on the functionality that they affect. These categories are listed alphabetically.
Each category is again categorised into various sub categories, again based on the functionality that is affected by the respective system parameters.
The System Parameter Categories are available in an expandable tree view and this tree can be expanded to the lowest level
To search for a specific system parameter, you can input three or more characters into the Find field. Based on the text that is input, the system parameter categories that contain system parameters that match the search text are listed. A minimum of three characters should be entered in order to start finding matching items.
For example, when a text of ‘Auto’ is entered in the Find field, all the system parameter categories that contain system parameters having the word ‘auto’ as a whole word or part of a word are listed in an expanded tree view
The user can then narrow down the search by entering more text and the search results will be narrowed down accordingly.
Deleting the text in the Find field resets the tree and the default view of the system parameter categories is displayed again.
