14.1. Background

A Business in SICS can be divided into Sections. The term “Section” is synonymous to Scope of Cover.

Each Section has a Section Classification, consisting of various Reference Data items (for example, Main Class of Business and Origin of Business) and Legal Areas (Country, State, Country Group, State Group).

For each Reference Data Type (for example, Main Class of Business) the user can select many values. Some search functions in SICS are restricted to considering only one of these values, namely the selected searchable value.

This means that if a Section contains more than one value for a given Reference Data Type, only one of these values will be considered in the search functions.

For the current version of SICS, the Accounting Order (Instalment Premium Order) is the only search function that has this restriction. In the future it is likely that the same restriction will apply to, for example, searching for businesses matching a given classification.

Example:

Assume a user creates a business (B1) with a Main Section classified as Main Class of Business Marine andMain Class of Business Motor. The system selects one of these values to be the searchable value. Assume the system chooses Marine as the searchable value (see How the System chooses the Searchable Classification Values explained later).

If you enter Main Class of Business Motor as one of the search criteria for an Accounting Order, the system does not include B1 in the search result.

Note! If the Main Section for B1 is divided into two child sections, and these child sections are classified with only one Main Class of Business (Marine and Motor, respectively), the Marine child-section is stored with Marine as the searchable value. Therefore, the Accounting Order search function includes B1 in the search result.
