11.5. Resource Registry Maintenance

Setting up Window Positioning in SICS 2.7 and 3.0 #

This feature is primarily intended for SICS end-users who have a physical set-up with two screens (monitors) while at the same time using Citrix in seamless mode to launch SICS. Using dual screens requires a special video card in the PC. The Matrox DualHead video card is one example. Although the Matrox DualHead video card comes with software that allows the end-user to select that windows should be opened in either the left-hand or right-hand screen, this feature does not work as intended when running an application such as SICS through Citrix in seamless mode. In order to overcome this issue with the Matrox DualHead video card, a simple form of window positioning control has been implemented in SICS.

Restrictions #

This feature was developed according to client specifications, which did not call for a complete solution. This means, that most windows and dialog boxes opened by SICS will be positioned according to the settings described below. However, there do exist some windows and dialog boxes that do not pay attention to the positioning settings. This is intended behaviour according to the change request that drove this implementation, and does not constitute an error.

Set-up #

The SICS windows positioning settings are stored in the Windows Registry under the same key as other SICS registry settings (see installation documentation for details).

The settings are local to each Windows user. This means that set-up of these settings must be done for each Windows user / Terminal Server combination.

In other words, if there is load balancing on Citrix and the user is connected to various Citrix servers, and then this set-up must be repeated on each server.

  1. Log on to the SICS Workstation or System Administration Utility.
  2. It is necessary to log on to SICS using a SICS user ID (not to be confused with the Windows user ID) that access rights (security) to perform the Resource Registry Administration use case.
  3. Start the Resource Registry Maintenance functionality:

  1. If window positioning has not yet been set up for this user and Citrix server combination, then the settings will be empty, like this:

  1. Click the Edit button (lower right hand corner) - this will open the window in edit mode.
  2. Enter the desired window centre positions.
  3. Remember to select Position Dialog Boxes as well.

For example:

Refresh button

  • Any change done to these settings takes effect immediately (when new windows or dialog boxes are displayed). In order to close all open windows and position the current SICS desktop window according the new settings, click the Refresh button on the SICS desktop window. Note! That these settings are personal, and do not affect other Windows users.
